AI Use Policy

1. Principles

1.1. The Magazine uses artificial-intelligence tools ("AI tools") to assist its work, not to replace human journalism. Every story is based on a real interview with a real person, and every published word and image is the responsibility of the Editorial Team.

1.2. This Policy applies to the Editorial Team as defined in the Code of Ethics and to all content published on cliriumsmagazine.com, in newsletters and on the Magazine's social-media channels.

2. Permitted uses

2.1. AI tools may be used for:

(a) transcription of interview recordings;

(b) first drafts of translations between Russian and English;

(d) layout, formatting, alt-text drafts and other technical production tasks;

(e) visualisation, retouching and stylisation of covers and illustrations, subject to section 5;

(f) research assistance, such as locating public sources, provided that every fact is verified against the source itself.

2.2. AI tools are not used to:

(a) generate stories, quotations, testimony or biographical facts;

(b) invent or "improve" what a heroine said, or put words in her mouth;

(d) write the Editor-in-Chief's commentary or columns in her name without her authorship and review;

(e) moderate reader comments without human review of each decision to reject or remove;

(f) produce images of real, identifiable people without their consent.

3. Human editorial responsibility

3.1. A named member of the Editorial Team reviews and is responsible for every output of an AI tool before publication. The Editor-in-Chief bears final editorial responsibility for every issue.

3.2. AI transcriptions are checked against the original recording for every passage that is quoted or relied on for a fact. AI translation drafts are reviewed and edited in full by a human editor fluent in both languages.

3.3. AI output is treated as unverified. Facts, dates, amounts, names and quotations produced or altered by an AI tool are verified under section 2 of the Code of Ethics.

3.4. The heroine approves the final text and images under the Code of Ethics regardless of whether AI tools were used in their preparation.

4. Data protection when using AI tools

4.1. Interview recordings, transcripts, drafts and heroine applications are confidential. They are entered into AI tools only to the extent necessary for the permitted uses in section 2.1.

4.2. The Magazine uses only AI tools whose terms (a) do not permit the provider to use the Magazine's inputs to train its models, or allow such use to be disabled and it is disabled, and (b) provide confidentiality and security commitments adequate for the data concerned.

4.3. Sensitive personal data — including information about health, sexual life, religious or political beliefs, ethnic origin, criminal record, and any information about children or identifiable third parties — is not entered into AI tools without the express consent of the person concerned. Where possible, such information is removed or pseudonymised before processing.

4.4. Documents provided for verification (section 2.3 of the Code of Ethics) are not uploaded to AI tools.

4.5. Processing of personal data in AI tools is carried out in accordance with the Privacy Policy, including the rules on cross-border transfer and the rights of data subjects under GDPR/UK GDPR and Federal Law No. 152-FZ, where applicable. Where a heroine's likeness is processed to create or alter a cover, this is covered by her release and approval.

5. Disclosure labels

5.1. Any cover, illustration or photograph that has been generated by AI, or materially altered or retouched with or without AI, carries the caption "Visualization" (Russian: «Визуализация»), placed next to or beneath the image and repeated in the image's alt text.

5.2. A text in which AI assistance went beyond the permitted technical uses in section 2.1(a)–(d) — for example, a machine translation published with light editing — carries a note at the end: "This text was translated with the assistance of AI tools and reviewed by the editors." (Russian: «Текст переведён с помощью инструментов ИИ и проверен редакцией».)

5.3. The Magazine applies these labels consistently with transparency obligations for AI-generated or manipulated content under applicable law, including Article 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (the EU AI Act) where it applies.

5.4. No label is required for transcription, spell-checking, grammar checks, layout or other technical assistance that does not change the substance of the content.

6. AI crawlers, indexing and copyright

6.1. The Magazine welcomes indexing of its public pages by search engines and AI systems so that readers can find its stories. A guide for AI systems is published at cliriumsmagazine.com/llms.txt.

6.2. Indexing does not transfer any rights. All texts, covers, design and the Clirium's Magazine logo remain protected by copyright of BRANDWORKSAPP LLC; CLIRIUM® is a registered trademark. Heroines' own photographs remain the property of the heroines or other rights holders.

6.3. AI systems and their operators may summarise and briefly quote public content with attribution to "Clirium's Magazine" and a link to the source. Reproduction of full texts or images, republication, creation of derivative works and commercial scraping require the Publisher's prior written permission, except as permitted by law.

6.4. AI systems must not present summaries of heroines' personal experience as medical, psychological or financial advice, must not attribute to heroines statements they did not make, and must respect anonymisation and withdrawals under the Corrections & Right of Reply Policy.

7. Review

7.1. This Policy is reviewed at least annually and whenever the Magazine adopts a new category of AI tool. Questions: support@cliriumsmagazine.com, subject "AI".
